The last days in Florence

As the rain cleared away to be replaced with glorious sunshine we visited more fantastic sites in the city

A morning visiting Michelangelo's extraordinary works in the Medici Chapel, The Laurentian Library...then to Benozzo Gozzoli's fabulous frescoes in the Medici-Riccardi Palace, we got behind the scaffold to get face-to-face with Masaccio's extraordinary fresco of The Trinity in Santa Maria Novella church, illuminated by sunshine filtered through multicoloured stained glass windows. We admired the fantastic architecture of Alberti on the facade of Santa Maria Novella and the classic Rucellai Palace, a work attributed both to Alberti and Rossellino and the amazing Rucellai tomb designed by Alberti and housed in what is now the museum dedicated to Marino Marini

Our week in Florence culminated in a hike up to the 11th century church of San Miniato al Monte and a final group shot as the sun set over Florence behind us

Sadly saying goodbye to Sofia, Bella, Zoe and Lizzie, but welcoming Lily back...off to Rome!
