After Oxford, John Hall taught for eight years at the King’s School, Canterbury. In 1965 he founded the Pre-University Course in Venice, which he still directs each year, and organized 'A VENICE RECORD', a book published originally for the 50th year of the course, and now updated to add the events of 2020. Available in the Blurb Bookstore.

He also used to arrange occasional tours in Italy – John Hall Italian Journeys – for parents and friends of course students. As well as occasional writing for The Times, The Field, Hortus, and a television play for the BBC, in 2002 he published his memoirs, GONDOLAS AND GRAPES – Enterprises in Italy, available in the Blurb Bookstore. Another book followed in 2019, CURRICULUM VITAE, Memories and Writings, John's early life, and later years featuring The Venice Course. Available Here on Blurb Bookstore.

Living now in the Marche region of Central Italy, he and his wife care for various fowl, dogs and cats and cultivate an olive grove and vineyard.

Charlie Hall has worked with The Course for over ten years. He took his Master’s degree in Art History at London University, and has worked in music publishing and art and furniture restoration. He has designed and taught courses for Christie’s Education, The Serpentine Gallery and hosts monthly Contemporary Art events for the Soho House group of members clubs. He is a tour leader for the highly respected Kirker Holidays group. He has two sons, who have both attended the course.
