Castello; San Giovanni in Bragora, Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni & the Arsenale

With a chilly misty morning (but not too early!) we headed off to the Castello district of Venice, the southern end of the city. The luminous altarpiece of Sant John the Baptist by Cima, Carpaccio's beautiful cycle of painting, including this recently restored image of Sant'Agostino in his study, the gates of Venice's maritime factory and centre of power, the Arsenale and finishing off with our traditional 'pub quiz' and pizza fest! Winning team pictured with their 'Golden Gondola' prizes!
